Six Years Later

Today marks six years since my first major concussion on April 28th, 2013. I was 13, in eighth grade, and a year-round athlete. I haven’t had a day without a headache in six years. I’m vastly better now. I’m 19, a college freshman at Georgetown, and I’m managing well in school and life. I’m studying neurobiology, plan to minor in business, participate in clubs on campus, and have made amazing friends. I have an awesome summer job with a new venture fund to look forward to, and I am consulting for a promising start-up. Six years ago, or even three years ago after another major concussion, I couldn’t have pictured myself here in college thriving. And I couldn’t have done it without the support of so many amazing people.

Travel Tips

This summer I spent three weeks in South Africa and wanted to compile some of my travel tips and tricks, specifically for flying

Sunglasses and PCS

Winter or summer, rain or shine, you will almost always catch me wearing sunglasses. So much so that it’s become a joke with all of my friends and sunglasses have become my “thing.” It took me a while post-concussion to realize how much sunglasses matter.

My brain pledge

I’m eighteen, I’m happy, I’m a high school senior. I love spending time with friends, I enjoy playing tennis and watching sports, and I’m healthy. Yet nestled between my high school ID and my gym card, I now carry a brain pledge card in my wallet. Here’s why.

A Ray of Hope...

Here on Headstrong and through the Concussion Legacy Foundation, I want to keep telling you my stories, the good and the bad. I think it’s important to keep in mind where you’ve been and how far you’ve come in your recovery, wherever you are, but I also don’t want you to feel that PCS is going to be forever.
